Urban Muscial Tours, LLC is an innovative multimedia company producing socially-relevant 

content for Theater, Film, TV, Serious Games, and the Internet.

  

We are Storytellers. We represent unique perspectives, forgotten narratives, and projects that explores history, music, the human experience, and diversity. We leverage technology to develop, create, and distribute these stories, bringing them to life. 

 

We seek to collaborate and partner with Businesses, Entrepreneurs, Technology Professionals, Artists of all disciplines, and Educators to engage communities, encouraging the discovery and celebration of greater social, economic, political, and cultural insight. We are "Reimagining Our World."

KEVIN M. RAMSEY

Founder/Producer 

Kevin Ramsey is a master storyteller who is committed to the historical examination and retelling of the African-American experience and its artistic contribution to American and world culture.  He is inspired by the truth and richness of life. Through communal engagement, he believes that we can reimagine our world for a far better tomorrow. UMT is birthed from 25 years of knowledge, experience, and dedicated research. Over the past 25 years, his work contributed to the success of several Tony-Award winning Broadway shows, "The Lion King"(LA), "The Life", "Five Guys Named Moe," "Black and Blue," and a host of major film and televison projects. As a director/choreograper he has contribubte commerical campaigns for both Met-Life and GMC.  He has created and produced award-winning content, in various roles as Producer, Director, Writer, Actor, Filmmaker, Choreographer, Youth Arts Activist, and Educator. Above all else, he is focused on reaching audiences near and far through emerging technologies and brilliant storytelling.  Kevin is a distinguished graduate of New York University, by way of Dillard University in New Orleans, and is pursuing his Masters degree at The New School in the Media Management, and is an Adjunct Professor at AMDA College and Conservatory for the Performing Arts. Kevin is a recipient of many honors, awards and citations, including the Theater World and Fred Astaire Awards for Best New Talent on Broadway, the Zoni and Audelco Awards, and the Barrymore Award for helping bring arts programs into maximum secure care facilities for juveniles, to name a few.  He continues his strong advocacy for arts education programming, and recently was awarded, the 2015 Tapology Legacy Award for his work in teaching and perserving the art of tap dance.

PEARL "BlackPearl" RAMSEY

Pearl is Kevin's niece, and is honored to work in collaboration with UMT. An international performing artist, vocalist, activist, and playwright she is the new voice in conscious art but, not new to the diverse social, economic and obscure political landscape of the textiles that make Urban culture a global phenomenon. Founder and creator of "Beauty Is As Beauty Does" day camp for young girls ages 9-15, designed to re-shape the idea of beauty and instill a greater awareness of self-worth beyond cosmetic appeal.   Pearl served as writer, director and associate producer for the University of Chicago (Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture) sponsored BIG (Blacks In Green) "8 Principles of Green Villiage Building" capstone project, "The Great Migration: Calling My Children Home", at the Dusable Museum. Collaborator with BIG's Founder, Naomi Davis, JD, "How Chicago Became A City" and "The Ole Time Mississippi Fish Fry - HipHop Storytelling Revival and Radio Show." With Over 20 plus years of community outreach working extensively with prominent community leaders, Pearl continues to mentor youth from across the nation through performance art initiatives and educational outreach. Presently, she is collaborating on a new commission, entitled "Sirens of Song," celebrating the musical influences and evolution of the 20th Century woman, for the Milwaukee Rep’s 2015-16 season.

Now celebrating "25 Years of Excellence"  BlackLight continues to be an asset to the global entertainment community, with offices in Atlanta and New York.

Execute marketing strategies to drive ticket sales and build brand awareness for a variety of Broadway productions, including Raisin in the Sun (starring Denzel Washington), Trip to Bountiful (with Cicely Tyson), Streetcar Named Desire, Stick Fly, Driving Miss Daisy (with Vanessa Redgrave and James Earl Jones), Time Stands Still (with Laura Linney), Ann on Broadway (with Holland Taylor), Baby It’s You, Ragtime, The Color Purple, as well as Off Broadway productions – Liberty the Musical, SawBones/Diamond Eater, Sistas, SHIDA the Musical, Through the Night and more, generating over $10 million in sales.

Mitch Weiss has been a general manager and company manager on and off Broadway for over thirty-five years including A Chorus Line, The Grapes of Wrath, Golden Child, Beauty and the Beast, Song of Jacob Zulu, On the Waterfront, and over 180 other shows. His career includes senior management positions at Disney Theatricals-International, New York Shakespeare Festival, Big Apple Circus, Barrington Stage Company, and personal management for disco icons Village People, Broadway diva Karen Mason, and Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis. Mr. Weiss has served on the Board of the Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers and has been a certified ATPAM manager since 1985.  He is proud to have learned his craft working with the best producers and managers in the world including Harold Prince, Kermit Bloomgarden, Joseph Papp, Bernard Gersten, Robert Kamlot, Charlotte Wilcox, Elizabeth McCann and others.  He is a graduate of Oberlin College, and teaches Broadway management at NYU's School of Professional Studies. His new hardcover book was released in July 2015: "The Business of Broadway, An Insider's Guide to Working, Producing, and Investing in the World's Greatest Theatre Community" and "Managing Pop Artists in Music" is now in its second edition, both on Allworth Press.
