R&B/soul vocalist, Anthony David is making his theatrical debut this summer in Kevin Ramsey’s Chasin’ dem Blues: The Untold Story of Paramount Records. Best known for his 2008 song “Words”, a duet with contemporary R&B singer India.Arie, David will play the role of bluesman, Blue. This is David’s first time working with Kenny Leon’s True Color’s Theatre Company. The rest of the cast includes Jeremy Cohen, Brad Raymond, Maiesha McQueen, and Che Marshall.

Clarksdale Mayor Bill Luckett, an honored guest at the premier, is well-versed in blues history, but says even he came away with some new information. “I had no idea that Paramount Records had even existed, much less that it operated out of a chair factory in Wisconsin,” Luckett said. “I also didn’t know that H.C. Speir, out of Jackson, was sending blues artists to Wisconsin Chair Company, where they made cases for phonographs."
Kenny Leon welcomes writer/director Kevin Ramsey to opening night. The two hour "Roof raising, Foot stompin" production had the entire audience groovin' in their seats. Chasin' Dem Blues exceeded ticket sale projection and was extended an extra two weeks, due to audience demand. Sold-out houses and standing ovation became a nightly occurrence.
